The Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance (LFFA) is hosting a FREE
on-the-river training session on PIT Tagging skwó:wech (Sturgeon)
We're reaching out to Food, Social, & Ceremonial (FSC) Fishers interested in Sturgeon Conservation. This initiative is part of the LFFA's Sturgeon Outreach & Monitoring Project, where we're creating a First Nations-led database of sturgeon encounters, with data governance decided by First Nations.
This is the second year of our project. We hope to expand monitoring efforts to encounter and tag previously untagged sturgeon, which will further grow our database. By completing this training session, we'll aim to distribute PIT tags and the necessary equipment for you to tag sturgeon during your own fishery. Please note that equipment is limited, so we can't guarantee supplies for all participants.
We are looking for:
Food Social & Ceremonial (FSC) Fishers that want to
contribute to First Nations led Research.
What You'll Learn & Do:
• Gain experience in handling, sampling, and tagging skwó:wech
under experienced supervision.
• Learn about the skwó:wech outreach & monitoring project and how
the data collected is aiding in conservation efforts
